Coffee seems to be a popular drink among many people in the morning, it’s stimulating, it’s full of antioxidants, it’s warm. Maybe I’m missing something but that just doesn’t appeal to me, for a couple of reasons:
- It tastes like coffee
- I think it’s unnecessary (unless you like it)
The first one’s personal, but not number 2. If you drink it solely because you’re tired, then you may just need a little more sleep and ambition to get you out of bed, but if you like the taste then that’s a different story.
Morning Super-Juice
In truth I don’t actually have a substitute for coffee, in fact what I do is the complete opposite. It’s not stimulating, it’s not warm, but I’m inclined to think it’s 10 times as healthy. Here’s what I have:
- Cucumber
- Avocado
- Celery
- Kale
- Apple Juice
I don’t think that would appeal much to a Starbucks enthusiast, but then again I’m not sure who it would appeal to. Maybe I’m just being naïve, but it seems like a long-shot.
It all started just over 3 months ago when I was introduced to the idea; put all that stuff in blender and that green drink is what you get. I was instantly hooked, and it doesn’t even taste bad (but that’s my opinion). It’s not like I’m putting Brussels sprouts in there, but even then I wouldn’t neglect the idea (what can I say, I’m not a fussy eater). I’d say tastes like ‘green’ with a hint of apple juice, but that’s a tough call (I’m no connoisseur of food, yet).
To me it’s more than coffee, but then again I don’t have the appreciation of coffee like some do. I find it’s just a health-dense, vitamin filled drink, and it’s something I’m sure my body loves.
Now this is no cooking/recipe blog, but it’s a great healthy habit that I’ve got into so I had to share it. If you’ve got the chance (and courage) to try it I’d recommend you do so, there’s not much to lose (I think…)!
Maybe you do something similar, who knows! Now you know my morning drink, so what’s yours (if you have one)?

My morning drink is plain water, I have 500mls upon waking. I hate the taste of coffee and believe it’s far too easy to get addicted. The only downside of not drinking coffee is the social aspect, you don’t really go out for a hot chocolate…
Nothing like good ol’ water! Even nowadays it’s underestimated. Aha I agree, I’ve been stuck in that situation many times. Here’s my workaround: Say you’re going out for coffee, but just order a hot chocolate. And if anyone asks then just say you weren’t feelin’ the coffee! Thanks Sam
That green thing doesn’t look all that appealing to me. I’ll stick with my half-a-pot of coffee first thing when I wake up.
But then, I’m a coffee fiend. What can I say? It’s my morning drink of choice.
Still, if you put that glass ‘o green stuff in front of me, I’d chug it down. I’m sure it’s pretty damn healthy.
But for health, I’d rather just mix a few raw egg yolks from the chickens next door with some raw milk from the farm down the road. Full protein, healthy fats, and loaded with vitamins and minerals. And freakin’ delicious to boot.
Cheers!
Can’t say I’m that surprised, I don’t know of many who do find it appealing…
Not a bad attitude – maybe you don’t want to make the effort to try it, but if you’ve got it, why the heck not?!
Well that doesn’t sound too bad either, there’s nothing quite like pure, fresh milk. Long time since I’ve had that, I might have to seek some out, and I would definitely have it alongside that green concoction
Thanks Trevor!
